A Growing Standard

Virtually all modern veterinary practices use some form of thermal printer label to identify items around the office and clinic, as well as items that will be distributed to clients. Address labels, sample product labels, price labels, and – perhaps most important of all – prescription labels for bottles of pills and packages of medications. Good labelling practices can help a veterinary practice run smoother, and can help clients when it comes to treating their animals at home.

Some of the most commonly used printers for creating labels include:

While all of these machines are capable of quality printing results, they’re at their best, and easiest to use, when you use labels that are compatible with each printer. When it comes time to select a thermal label to use in your printer, there are a few considerations to keep in mind.

Ensure that you’re using a prescription grade label stock. Prescription grade labels have a top coating that helps the label stand up over time against fading, scuffing, and chemical interaction with plastic, which is typically the material used for pill bottles.

Use acrylic adhesives as to insure a positive bond between the labels and the application surface. Acrylic adhesives provide a superior, significantly longer bond between surfaces and do not tend to dry out.

The development of DYMO compatible labels

DYMO compatible prescription grade thermal labels are some of the most reliable labels you can utilize in your office or clinic. That’s because they’ve been rigorously tested to ensure they won’t fade or scuff soon after being printed and placed on a product.

ELECOMPACK tests out our thermal stock for four weeks ahead of production. During those testing sessions, the labels are subjected to various forms of light, heat, adhesives, and scuffs – the sort of everyday wear you would expect your labels to resist.

Printing properly

Depending on the type of veterinary-specific software you use, you may have limitations on what sized labels you’ll be able to print. When you’re working with your software, make note of what label sizes you can and can’t print.

ELECOMPACK supports all major software manufacturers, including Idexx, Avimark, Vetlink, Cornerstone, VPM, Better Choice, Intravet, DVM Manager, Impromed, Infinity, Elink VIA, Softquest, Dataware, Client Trax, and many more.

Our labels come in a wide array of sizes to fit a wide variety of items. Some ELECOMPACK labels come complete with snap away bottom edges to properly fit small pill bottles, including 7 dram bottles.

Properly-sized, wear-resistant labels can be invaluable to a veterinary clinic, making it easier for staff to stay organized, and making it easier for clients to know how to take care of their pets.
